When I log into World Community Grid my Accumulated Points: 17,284,059 and when I check my stats here they are Total Credit 2,469,152.75 so where are my 15 million points or is this not how it is calculated? Please explain.

Hi there!!

I shall try and explain. Once upon a time, WCG was not part of BOINC. It is still very much an IBM backed & supported project. They had, and still have, their own POINTS system - these being a collection of points earned in all the sub-projects (Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together - Phase 2, Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy - Phase 2, Help Fight Childhood Cancer, Help Conquer Cancer, Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2, FightAIDS@Home, etc. ) they have running.

When they decided to be a part of the BOINC community, there was much discussion on the issue of how their POINTS awarded could be translated into BOINC CREDITS. If you trawl through their forums, I'm sure you will find quite a few threads on the subject.

Their IBM platform is still not 100% compatible with the BOINC one - a bone of contention even now.

If you check out the many BOINC forums around the web I'm sure you'll see what I mean.

In conclusion: WCG POINTS are not to be confused with BOINC CREDITS, as they are are calculated in completely different ways.

I hope this helps!!

Cheers

Chris ;)
